One of my favorite things about living away from home (and with my boyfriend) is getting to meal plan, grocery shop, and cook dinner every night. Just call me Susie Homemaker.
Anyway, my local grocery store is pretty good - it's got almost everything I want (just no Carnation Instant Breakfast...so annoying), and good produce. Plus the staff is super friendly and will help me locate wonton wrappers when I realize I need them 30 minutes before the Super Bowl starts.
But I digress.
Anyway, sometimes I'm at the grocery store with a cart full of food, and there are no (or very few) baggers. So after the checker rings my food up, she walks around the the side and starts bagging. Now, mind you, this isn't a Trader Joe's where there's that unwritten "Thou must bag your own groceries" rule - it's just a regular old grocery store. So I pay, and the cashier starts bagging. And then I stand there...and fiddle with my phone...and basically look everywhere except AT the checker who just bagged all my frozen vegetables (I do always thank them, though).
Anyway, it's obviously a super First World Problem, but I always feel awkward. Do I help (I'm not trained in bagging!)? Do I continue to just stand there?
What would you do?
