Oh hey. I know I promised a guide to shopping at F21 and an overheard at F21 post this week, but they probably won't happen until early next week - they're more work than I thought, and coupled with a nasty little stomach bug I've been fighting for the past couple days I just haven't gotten around to it. So how about another brain dump post (I know, two in one week? It's CRAZY!)
1) The weather can seriously go effe off. You want to know what the temperature is right now? 3 degrees. 3. I don't even want to know what the windchill is, because that is stankin' ridonk.
2) Because I've been sick, and the weather has been frigid, I haven't taken a single outfit picture since Monday. This makes me a bad blogger...or at least a blogger without street cred. (How do the bloggers in Alaska/New England do it?!?)
3) I watched Obama's speech at the memorial service for the shooting victims in Tuscon last night. Obviously it's a sad event and I hate that it happened, but the whole time all I could think about was how much older Obama looks than he did just two years ago. It's amazing what the Presidency (does that get capitalized?) does to a person. (oh, look at this TIME photo essay!)
4) Why is it that ever time I'm eating something at my desk at work, 900 million people walk by and stop to ask me what I'm eating, if it's good, yadda yadda yadda. Seriously. Leave me alone. I'm eating. I don't want to talk to you.
5) So I'm probably going to go buy a new laptop. Because I drank the koolaid in college, I need to stick with an Apple. My brother is a bit of tech geek and has been advising me which way to go, but it's so difficult! I REALLY want the Macbook Air (ooooh, shiny! tiny! pretty!), but I'm worried it doesn't have enough memory...but then again my current laptop (a PowerBook G4) only has a 75GB hard drive, which is teeny-tiny to today's standards. Agh. I wish there was a completely impartial person who wasn't making money off me who would just go "Here. This is a perfect computer for uploading/editing pictures, blogging, and watching Grey's Anatomy on hulu". Because let's be honest, that's all I do.
6) So remember how in this post I said I was addicted to Boston Market? Well, the last time I went the employees freaking recognized me. As in "Hi, Ashley! The usual?". Embarrassing. So now I think I"m going to have to take a break from the Market for a bit.
7) Am I the only person in the world who is over Katy Perry? I mean, her songs are catchy...for the first 50 times. But seriously, she gets to sing at the Grammys? Did they not see her atrocious performance on SNL?
8) We have a lot of seasonal employees at my work. At the end of the season, they are reviewed and if they get a favorable review they can come back the following year, and if it's a bad review, then they can't. Unless the employee just quits, they know what their rehire status is at the end of the season. But every year around this time without fail, I have about 5 former employees a day call and ask if they are eligible for rehire. My thoughts? If you have to ask, you probably aren't. And they never are.
9) My main task at work today is to sharpen 1000 pencils for our upcoming job fair. Why did we not buy pre-sharpened pencils, you ask? Because they cost 3 cents more per pencil. BUT I did the math. It takes me about 20 seconds per pencil to sharpen it. Which means its costing about 10 cents per pencil for me to sharpen it. Yeah. I'm going to throw that math in our office manager's face next time she tells me we need to get unsharpened pencils because they are more economical.
10) Number one way to keep an HR department happy? Don't call us to ask when your W2 will be mailed out. Seriously. We've done this before. You'll get it when you get it. Which will be by the 31st of January. Like the law says. And it's not cute to call every day to ask. I have caller ID, so I can tell.
