So here we have work conference outfit number 2! There really wasn't a good spot to take the pictures other than the balcony of the little condo thing my room was in, so these aren't the most creative pictures. Apologies. However, this is a mildly creative color combo. I actually got the idea for the outfit from the character Rachel in (500) Days of Summer. Rachel is the main dude's little sister (cousin?), and her soccer uniform is blue shorts with an orange shirt. When I first saw the movie (like, two weeks ago) I fell in love with the combo and knew I had to wear something similar soon.
Enough about my outfit, it's not like that's what this blog is about. These past few days have been a freaking whirlwind. As I mentioned Friday, I have a 3+ hour drive from my house to the conference location on Wednesday. When the conference ended on Friday I stopped by the outlet malls (the only good outlet mall in the state was 5 minutes from my hotel), and then started on the 4+ hour drive to my friend's house in southeastern Illinois. I stopped halfway and got what turned out to be the world's worst mani/pedi at a nail place just to break the drive up a bit (and take care of my disgusting nails that had been neglected due to the conference).
The reason I was headed to my friend's house was because it was her hometown's Homecoming - not football homecoming, but...it's like a fair, basically. I've never heard of such a thing until I started hanging out with this girl, but apparently almost all towns in southeastern Illinois have one. Her town's big thing is beer in buckets (like...it's draft beer in 40 oz buckets, and you dip your cup in) and fried fish sandwiches....so good! I went last year for the first time and had to join her again this year, it's a hoot!
So anyway, after spending the night at her house Friday I drove to a small town south of St. Louis (an hour away) for my aunt's birthday lunch at The Blue Owl (Paula Deen endorses this resturant so you know it's good!). It was my dad's oldest sister's birthday, and she is 70! My dad has six sisters, and they range in age from 70 to 47 -- my grandma is 91 (and was having babies for 23 years of her life, crazy!). After a delicious lunch (I had a side salad, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes (with country gravy), green beans with bacon, and then we had a 10 layer chocolate amaretto cake for dessert!), I drove BACK to my friend's house where we went to the homecoming fair again that night (with another friend in tow this time!). Sunday morning we went to the local mall, and then I drove the hour to my boyfriend's apartment where I promptly took a two hour nap!
Such a busy week, I'm glad to get back in a routine again!
